Cleanings & Checkups
A regular cleaning and exam is the simplest, most effective way to keep your smile healthy — and to catch small issues before they become big ones.
What it is
A professional cleaning removes the soft plaque and hardened tartar that a toothbrush can't reach, especially along the gumline and between teeth. Your hygienist then polishes your teeth and reviews your brushing and flossing technique.
The checkup is where one of our dentists looks closely at your teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues — often with digital X-rays — to spot cavities, gum changes, or other concerns early, while they're easy to treat.
What to expect
- 1
A warm welcome
We'll review your health history and ask what's been on your mind — sensitivity, bleeding gums, or anything that's been bothering you.
- 2
Gentle cleaning
Your hygienist cleans, polishes, and (if needed) takes digital X-rays. We go at your pace and explain each step.
- 3
A clear exam
Your dentist reviews everything with you in plain language — what looks great, what to watch, and what (if anything) needs attention.
- 4
A simple plan
You leave knowing exactly where you stand, with no pressure and no surprises.
Your comfort comes first
If cleanings have made you anxious in the past, tell us — we'll slow down, numb sensitive areas, and check in often. Our hygienists are known for a gentle, unhurried touch.
Common questions
How often should I come in for a cleaning?
Most patients do well with a cleaning and checkup every six months, but some benefit from more frequent visits. Your dentist will recommend a schedule that fits your mouth and your health history.
Does a cleaning hurt?
For most people a cleaning is comfortable. If your gums are sensitive or inflamed, we can numb the area and work gently. Always let your hygienist know if anything feels tender.
Will my insurance cover it?
Most dental plans include regular cleanings and exams. We accept most major insurance plans and are happy to help you understand your coverage and handle the paperwork.
